放置竹林の解消と竹の有効利用

古くから竹は様々なことに利用され、自然と竹林はコントロールされ、里山の一風景として生物多様性を育んできました。ところが、過疎高齢化により筍採取が困難になるとともに、竹材としての利用も減少し、竹林が維持できなくなると、林地や農地に竹が侵食するなど放置竹林が全国的に問題視されています。高知県内および大豊町内でも竹林の分布拡大が著しいことが既に指摘されていますが、今後も管理放棄された竹林の増加管理、放棄竹林による周辺農林地の浸食拡大の連鎖は今後も避けられません。

　「集落を元気にする」には、竹林のコントロールは避けられません。単純に伐採しなくすだけでなく、循環利用可能な天然資源として今一度見直す必要があると考えています。
